Description

Principles of scientific writing and presentations are taught first and evaluated then including an oral presentation by the student and a short document to write on a precise matter in the area of computer networks and IoT systems.

Topics :

  • Evolution of technical-scientific writing and communication. Historical examples
  • General topics on scientific technical English
  • Writing a scientific paper (language; choice of the title; introduction; acknowledgements; main body; conclusions; bibliographic references; appendices; notes)
  • Result visualization: tables and figures
  • From the initial to the final draft (writing the first draft; reviewing the contents; reviewing the language; preparing the highlights of a paper, dealing with Referees/Supervisor comments and objections, interaction with Editor)
  • Preparing and organizing a PhD Thesis. The bibliographic research.  Ethics and plagiarism
  • Refereeing scientific papers
  • Planning an oral presentation: keeping an audience interested in your results
  • Preparing and writing slides and posters

Finalité

The aim of this course is to develop and improve the candidates' scientific writing, as well as increase their ability to deliver scientific and technical presentations in English.
